Psychic Movie Reviewer 2003-05-09

This weekend in movies, is like an eye of the hurricane. Caught dead square against two juggernaut "Summer Blockbusters", few movies dare to open this weekend, except one. In wide release we have in this corner, "Daddy Day Care". Rated PG, and classed as Comedy, "Daddy Day Care" is an Eddie Murphy film about a man who loses his professional job, feels out of sorts as his wife provides for the family, then decides to open up a neighborhood daycare in what he thinks will be a creampuff like job. Unfortunately, taking care of kids is nothing creampuff like, and neither is this movie.

Offhand without having seen the movie, and going by the trailers, this movie while certainly better then "The Adventures of Pluto Nash" will mostly likely fall short of Murphy's early more well like films. Of course this appears to be a trend with the aging comic, who seems to be devolving into a second childhood, with more and more movies pandering to a gross-out gag me with a spoon plot and acting. Almost makes one wonder if he's trully trying to follow in the footsteps of Jerry Lewis. Will it make money though is entirely questionable, and the answer? Yes. The movie is low budget enough that it'll spin out enough dollars to break even. Though please, for the love of god, stay away from any sequels.
